Did you know, Boss, that we make an average of 35,000 decisions a day? From which socks to wear in the morning to that critical design change in the Unicorns Turkey project, our brain is constantly in "judge" mode. But here’s the real question: How many of these decisions are truly yours, and how many are the work of that massive subconscious lurking beneath the surface?
Are We Rational or Emotional? (Let’s Be Honest!)
We think of ourselves as very logical beings, but the brain is actually a total “lazy energy-saver.” At the moment of decision, two main regions of our brain clash:
- Amygdala (Emotional Response): It’s fast, primitive, and acts on fear and excitement. It says, “Do it now!”
- Prefrontal Cortex (Logical Analysis): It’s slow, it does the math. It says, “Stop, think.”
Most of the time, the amygdala makes the decision, and the prefrontal cortex later comes up with rational justifications for that decision. So, in reality, most of our decisions are nothing more than “emotionally packaged rational lies.”
The "Sneaky" Traps in the Decision-Making Process
Our brain loves shortcuts (heuristics), but these shortcuts sometimes lead to a cliff:
- Confirmation Bias: We only see information that supports our own ideas.
- Herd Mentality: The fallacy that “if everyone is doing it, it must be right.” (This is exactly what we fight against the most at Unicorns Turkey!)
The Unicorns Turkey Difference: "Conscious Decision Design"
So, what are we doing here? We don’t just “make” decisions—we design them. When making decisions, we dive beneath the surface:
- Blending Data with Emotion: We don’t just look at the numbers; we also factor in the user experience and the feelings behind those numbers.
- Cognitive Flexibility: Instead of falling in love with an idea and becoming blinded by it, we put that idea through its paces in the Unicorns Turkey lab. We know the brain’s “shortcuts” and act with collective intelligence to avoid falling into those traps.
The Bottom Line: Who’s at the Helm?
Making a decision isn’t just pressing a button; it’s navigating an iceberg. You can’t be a true leader or a successful designer without understanding that massive mass beneath the water (the subconscious, biases, habits).
In the Unicorns Turkey ecosystem, we analyze every layer of that iceberg. Because we know that the most accurate decisions begin the moment you understand how your brain is being tricked.
